After that long pause,
It felt like we had nothing more to say;
Acutely, I felt the separation,
As if now you and I each belonged to a different day:
I said something, and suddenly you didn’t want to say
What was on your mind,
And I felt you were making me seem unkind
Because you were unkind;
I wanted to like you, but now I saw there was something in your mind
That didn’t want to talk to me, that was unkind.
These pauses kill relationships every day.
That pause. That one long pause.
And now I don’t care what you have to say.
