THE STUPID PERSON

The stupid person is a topic for poetry.

No one should be called stupid in real life.

The stupid person, however, is necessary

for politics, institutions, and a happy husband and wife.

Education is defined by stupidity.

The stupid person defines the job, not the other way around—

The stupid person can write poetry—

thanks to education.

When words increase, the stupid can always be found.

Democracy defends the stupid as one of its highest ideals.

But it doesn’t use the word, “stupid.”

Using other terms, it steals and steals and steals.

Lacking efficiency, growth is the mark of stupidity.

Stupidity overwhelms wit and poetry—

the only two things which can treat it.

And when stupidity is used by intelligence,

nothing can beat it.

The inventor of two-party politics,

a northerner frightened by its drawl,

was a white, polite, smart, man—

Democracy: stupidity for almost all.

The stupid is always in need

and needs a secret plan.

“Kiss the stupid. Be good to them, and smile.

And put away this poem. It’s vile.”
