The physical is preferred in every case,
in the arms, the legs, the buttocks, the face.
It’s why the addiction to sports
is ubiquitous
and the looks on faces
from the intellectual retorts,
the body language, the fakes,
on basketball courts;
the snowball attacks
on childhood forts
is more memorable
than a fake debate by the Deep State,
two sides secretly in league,
the intellectual sweat and fatigue
of cigarettes and low cunning.
We would rather see athletes running.
The politics of staying dumb—
you can’t help if you are too slow.
The worst ignorance
the hidden foe.
We prefer the physical—
if Tom Brady knows
he will get pass interference
on one of his throws
just because he is Tom Brady,
this is the action we hate,
the soft status quo,
the gathering officials
for the state of the state.
Even the quarterback
can be too intellectual—
we would rather see someone
almost drown,
an injured reception,
a body nearly dead
spun to the ground—
False! what the yearning mind
will fashion
or the imagination make—
the physical is all.
Even the truth is fake.
