You believed in Jesus as a boy
but you were good enough to see
good had nothing to do with reality.
Good wasn’t good enough, so poetry
was crushed by entertainment and the news.
Marilyn Monroe became the new Mozart.
Sonatas were murdered by the blues.
Things got so good in terms of material wealth
it ushered in more good: immaterial stealth,
the propaganda of society told us good
was good, but good is never good enough, you see?
You weren’t good enough
when in your mind good didn’t line up with reality.
Good will never be good enough. That’s the thing.
You believed yourself for too long.
Whenever or however you think you are good,
you are wrong.
